Lacy Layers Dress
This is a knitting pattern (PDF) only.
Brief overview / tips:
The dress is worked from the top down with i-cord straps and slipped edge stitches.
First, both straps are worked separately with their respective increases. They are then joined onto one needle, and the front and back pieces are worked flat separately. After that, all pieces are joined onto one needle and worked in the round.
The dress features slight waist shaping before increasing for extra width in the skirt.
The ruffles can be worked as you go or added at the end—this is entirely up to you.
If you choose to add the ruffles at the end, I recommend working the rounds from which stitches will later be picked up in purl stitch, as this makes it easier to see where to pick up the stitches.
Tip: Adjust the fit to your own body by decreasing more or fewer stitches at the waist, and make the dress as long or short as you like. The dress will stretch slightly with wear.
Sizes:
1 (2) 3 (4) 5 (6) 7
Finished garment measurements:
Bust circumference, approx.: 75 (82) 88 (94) 100 (110) 120 cm
Waist circumference, approx.: 68 (78) 82 (89) 96 (103) 114 cm
Total length, measured from the shoulder, approx.: 85 (95) 95 (95) 105 (105) 105 cm, or desired length.
Note: The weight of the dress may cause it to stretch slightly after washing and with wear.
The model is wearing size 2, usually wears size 3 (M), and is 168 cm tall.
A dress with straps feels much wider than the stated bust measurement. The model in the photo has 6 cm of negative ease, and the dress is still loose-fitting.
Yarn requirements:
The dress is knitted with 1 strand of Arwetta (210 m/50 g) and 1 strand of Tilia (210 m/25 g) from Filcolana, held together.
The ruffles are knitted with only 1 strand of Tilia.
Arwetta: 200 (250) 300 (300) 350 (350) 400 g
Tilia: 200 (250) 275 (275) 300 (325) 350 g
Suggested needles:
4 mm circular needles, 60 and 80 cm. Sizes 5–7 only require the 80 cm circular needle.
Gauge:
22 stitches x 30 rounds = 10 x 10 cm – 1 strand of each yarn on 4 mm needles.
If you match the stitch gauge but not the row gauge, I recommend not going up in needle size.
