Mathea Dress
This is a knitting pattern (PDF) only.
Brief overview / tips:
The dress is knitted bottom-up using one strand of each yarn quality held together. You begin by knitting an i-cord and then picking up stitches along it. The dress is first knitted back and forth in stockinette stitch to create a slit. It is then knitted in the round up to the armhole. From there, the rest of the work is knitted back and forth while decreasing, first on both sides and then on one side only.
The sleeve is also started with an i-cord, from which you pick up stitches. It is initially knitted in the round and then back and forth. The sleeve is finished by knitting a pleat and binding off. The sleeve is sewn onto the dress at the end.
Sizes:
1 (2) 3 (4) 5 (6)
Finished garment measurements:
Bust circumference, approx.: 62 (71) 78 (80) 96 (105) cm
Waist circumference, approx.: 73 (81) 88 (97) 106 (115) cm
Hip circumference, approx.: 84 (92) 96 (100) 118 (127) cm
Length from shoulder, approx.: 96 (105) 108 (115) 117 (117) cm
The model in the photos is wearing size 2, usually wears a size M, and has approximately 15 cm of negative ease at the bust.
Note! The dress will stretch somewhat with wear. I therefore recommend choosing a size with approximately 12–15 cm of negative ease at the bust.
Yarn requirements:
The dress is knitted using Eco Puno, 215 m/50 g, and Seta Suri, 212 m/25 g, from Lana Grossa.
Eco Puno: 200 (300) 300 (350) 350 (350) g
Seta Suri: 100 (125) 150 (150) 175 (175) g
Suggested needles:
Dress: 5 mm and 4.5 mm circular needles, 60/80 cm.
Sleeve: 3.5 mm needle for the i-cord and 4.5 mm circular needle, 40 cm, or use the magic loop technique or double-pointed needles.
You will need 2 x 4.5 mm needles for knitting the pleat on the sleeve (double-pointed needles, cable needles, etc.).
Sizes 1–3 require a 60 cm circular needle for the body.
For the other sizes, you can use either a 60 or 80 cm circular needle.
Gauge:
20 stitches x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm on 4.5 mm needles
18 stitches x 25 rows = 10 x 10 cm on 5 mm needles
